Jewels and gems are critical for empowering your character's gear in Diablo 4

Jewels and gems are critical for empowering your character's gear in Diablo 4. By increasing your jewel crafting level, you can create more powerful gems to slot into weapons and armor. This guide covers how jewel crafting works and provides tips on quickly gaining crafting levels.

Overview of Jewel Crafting

Jewel crafting allows you to transform basic gems found while exploring into enhanced versions. Higher jewel crafting levels unlock the recipes to create stronger gems.

You start collecting gems early on, but can't craft them until unlocking the jeweler at level 20. The jeweler can spend your gold and materials to evolve chipped gems into crude, standard, flawless, and eventually royal gems.

There are seven types of gems, each granting different bonuses. Higher tiers provide larger boosts, encouraging you to raise your crafting level.

How to Gain Jewel Crafting Levels

Your jewel crafting level increases automatically whenever you reach a new character level threshold:

  • Level 20 unlocks chipped gems
  • Level 40 unlocks standard gems
  • Level 50 unlocks flawless gems
  • Level 60 unlocks royal gems

Gaining personal character levels boosts the jewel crafting level for your whole account. You can then craft at the new tier with any character.

Finding Gems to Craft

The best sources for gems are dungeon caches, interactable objects, and side quest rewards. Defeated enemies will also randomly drop Diablo 4 gems, with higher tiers appearing more frequently at higher character levels.

Save any chipped, crude, or standard gems you find while leveling up. Having a stockpile will allow immediately crafting new recipes when you unlock a new jewel tier.
